[Bridgewater_EOC_Communications] Drill message #3 -Hurricane Melissa Update-Governer Baker issues Emegency Declaration

THIS IS ONLY A DRILL!
Hurricane Melissa continues to cause significant damage along the
eastern seaboard. The eye of the storm is currently located 25 miles
off the coast of Maryland and remains a Category 3 Hurricane. Blue
Hills Observatory in Canton, Massachusetts has registered gusts
exceeding 70 miles per hour. Additional hurricane force winds are
expected to increase throughout the day today in Southeastern
Massachusetts, Rhode Island and Connecticut. Storm surges on
southeastern facing beaches could reach 20 feet and rainfall amounts
could exceed 15 to 18 inches.
The National Weather Service is predicting that the eye of the storm
will enter Narragansett Bay in Rhode Island at approximately 5PM today.
The eye will continue in a northerly direction and tilt northeasterly
over southern New Hampshire.
The Governors of Connecticut, Massachusetts and Rhode Island have issued
Emergency Declarations and ordered all residents to shelter in place or
gather at the MEMA declared regional shelters. Bridgewater Raynham High
School and Bridgewater Middle School have been declared regional
shelters and will be staffed by American Red Cross and Regional CERT
teams. Roadways in Eastern Massachusetts will be closed to only
essential personnel beginning at 6PM tonight.
Bridgewater Fire and Police are staffed at emergency levels and are
stationed in safe locations.
At this time, Bridgewater Emergency Management staff are now placed on
Emergency Active Status and must report in to the Emergency Operations
Center at 530PM for assignment.
