Over the next few days leading up to the exercise, you will receive
email notifications similar to the one below leading up to activation of
the EOC staff. The notifications will brief you on the conditions
leading to activation to prepare you for the scenario of the exercise.
THIS IS ONLY A DRILL
The National Weather Service is monitoring Hurricane Melissa, a Category
4 Storm currently located 200 miles off the coast of the Florida.
Current projections have the storm traveling north-northeast paralleling
the eastern seaboard and turning slightly northwest over New York City.
A slow moving weather front is forming in the mid-west plains and is
projected to move northeasterly which would push Hurricane Melissa off
the coast. Unfortunately, weather models are predicting the strong
likelihood of the storm staying on its current track northward. The
northeast and New England, in particular, will be experiencing powerful
winds in excess of 100mph, 12-15 inches of rainfall, significant beach
erosion including severe damage to coastal property and flooding of
inland waterways starting Tuesday afternoon.
Therefore, Bridgewater Emergency Management Agency is placing its
Emergency Operations Staff on READY ALERT at this time. The Town
Manager is urging all essential public safety staff to ready their own
properties and families for a significant event. We are hopeful that
the storm blows out to sea, but current projections are not promising.
Please monitor your email for further details concerning full activation
of EOC staff in the coming days.
